The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at the Maine Medical Center has a fantastic opportunity for an innovative clinical leader to join our organization as the Director of Nursing Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The Director of Nursing must be a transformational leader that will be responsible for the strategic direction of the Department and demonstrate effective clinical practice and serve as a leader, mentor and role model for staff throughout the department. In order to assure the highest quality of care is delivered, the Nurse Director will be an advocate for quality practice and patient safety. The Maine Medical Center NICU provides:
51 Bed, Level 3b
Team of seven neonatologists
Approximately 800 “at risk” births per year
Approximately 200 transports per year
The successful candidate will have Clinical leadership and business/administrative experience. NICU experience is not a requirement. Clinical leadership in other disciplines may be considered.

Requires Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Master’s preferred.
Requires interpersonal and management skills and knowledge of employee relation laws as normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, in order to deal with complex management problems and communicate with unit personnel, physicians, administrative personnel, a variety of other hospital personnel, and community persons.
Requires clinical expertise in direct patient care as normally acquired through approximately five years experience as a staff nurse and/or nurse manager.
Requires a high level of critical thinking and analytical skills to make management decisions at unit level and make recommendations for consideration on departmental issues.
Requires the ability to integrate the knowledge of teaching principles and counseling techniques in order to direct the growth of the unit staff.
Requires a high level of organization skills, effective time management and delegation strategies that include the ability to rapidly prioritize and adjust work flow according to changing unit needs.
