The Director of Emergency Services provides overall leadership, direction, and collaboration for Emergency Services, Trauma/Burn and Transport Services. Develops short- and long-term departmental strategic plans, directs the implementation of goals, objectives, and performance standards, and is accountable for fiscal oversight of multiple cost centers. Additionally, the Director provides clinical expertise by promoting evidence-based medicine and nursing and driving continuous process improvement in operational and service excellence. Finally, the Director is responsible for representing Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) in national and/or regional professional organizations.
Education: Master's degree in Nursing or a directly related health care field is required.
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of clinical nursing experience in addition to a minimum of three (3) years of nursing leadership experience.
Certification(s): Certification as a Nurse Executive or Nurse Executive, Advanced is required within two (2) years of hire is required.
Licensure(s): Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado at the time of hire is required.
Responsible for strategic planning, operational planning, program growth and development, quality and safety, financial management, patient and family experience, people and culture management.
Works in partnership with physician and organizational leaders to promote cohesive, coordinated and innovative program development inclusive of developing, articulating and implementing a shared vision for comprehensive emergency services for all CHCO sites.
Provides clinical expertise, promoting evidence-based medicine and nursing, to include the appropriate clinical care standards and standardized processes. Utilizes principles of patient and family centered care to ensure a seamless continuum of care for patients in collaboration with service line and other hospital leadership.
Leads the development of emergency services strategic plan for all CHCO sites. Facilitates annual updates, monitors and tracks progress on initiatives including outcome metrics and facilitates a communication plan. Leads business plan development for clinical programs and services.
Facilitates education and research specific to emergency services.
Develops, directs, implements and evaluates departmental operations consistent with the organizationâ€™s commitment to continuous improvement in the quality of patient care and consistent with appropriate budgetary parameters.
Develops and identifies areas of improvement of hospital, department and service standards of care, policies and procedures.
Provides leadership in program development for areas of responsibility as well as assigned projects.
Ensures that all appropriate licensure, compliance and accreditation standards are met and develops and implements risk mitigation strategies with respect to emergency care and services.
Develops, implements, evaluates and/or revises programs/standards based on departmental and organizational philosophy and objectives.
Integrates Emergency, Trauma/Burn and Transport Services with other hospital departments in an effort to create an atmosphere of cooperation and coordination in the delivery of exemplary patient and family centered care.
Collaborates with key stakeholders in developing, testing, implementing and evaluating emergency preparedness plans.
Actively participates in local, regional and national organizations to advance emergency services for children and families.
Makes decisions on hiring, terminations, promotions, and disciplinary actions as required. Selects, trains, develops, and evaluates subordinate managers and team members. Champions educational programs in collaboration with the professional development department, nurse managers, and medical directors. Mentors and coaches departmental leaders with consideration of leadership development and succession planning.
Develops and monitors the budget for multiple cost centers to ensure compliance with organizational financial goals. Utilizes financial data evaluate existing programs and formulate a business plan to develop new programs/services.
Collaborates on the development of comprehensive planning, strategic growth and competence alignment for site based clinical matrix operations. Collaborates on performance and management expectations for all operation metrics areas pertaining to staff engagement and service excellence.
Provides relationship management and partnership with Physician Relations and referring providers in sustaining and growing market share across the Network of Care.
