The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) directs nursing services within Barton Memorial Hospital. The CNO has direct oversight of the following departments: Acute Nursing Services, Respiratory Care, the Trauma program, and Case Management. The CNO develops hospital-wide patient care programs, policies, and procedures that describe how patients’ nursing care needs are assessed, met and evaluated. The CNO develops and implements plans for providing nursing care, treatment, and services to patients requiring nursing care, treatment, and services. The CNO collaborates with governing body, management, medical staff, and clinical leaders to ensure nursing service structures and processes are implemented effectively across the organization. The CNO implements an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve the quality of nursing care, treatment, and services delivered to patients.
A graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration required.
Minimum 5 years acute care nursing experience
7 years of previous management experience as a nurse manager or healthcare executive.
Prior experience as a CNO preferred.
Prior experience working in an unionized environment preferred.
Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills, including active listening, written and presentation skills.
Ability to constructively discuss issues by inviting varied perspectives and facilitating consensus; comfortable in making quick decisions when necessary as well as in conflict management.
Knowledge of and experience with quality improvement principles, business and management techniques and principles, strategic planning, business strategy development, LEAN and project management.
Working knowledge of hospital operations, economics and financing, and community and public health. Knowledge of the local, state and national environment of health care.
Must function within a fast-paced environment and possess the ability to respond effectively to challenges of managing operations within a highly competitive, rapidly changing and increasingly complex healthcare market.
Documented strength(s) related to hiring, leadership team building and the creation/maintenance of a productive environment that promotes the initiative, innovation, and continual learning.
Maintains valid, current RN licensure in the State of California.
Current CPR/BLS certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the Healthcare Provider) or ability to obtain prior to start date.
Certification as a Nursing Administrator preferred.
