Kirby Bates Associates is honored to be working with MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center to identify an experienced contemporary nursing leader for the role of Administrative Director of Emergency and Critical Care Services.
MedStar Health is a $5 billion not-for-profit, regional healthcare system with a network of ten hospitals and 20 other health-related businesses across the Maryland and Washington DC region. As the area's largest health system, it is one of the region's largest employers with close to 30,000 associates and has 6,000 affiliated physicians, all of whom support MedStar Health's patient-first philosophy that combines care, compassion and clinical excellence with an emphasis on customer service. They prove this annually with approximately 205,000 inpatient admissions and 4.3 million outpatient visits while also having employee engagement scores that exceed the national average for healthcare and Fortune 500 high-performing companies. This translates into a workforce dedicated to providing the highest quality care to those they serve.
MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center (MFSMC) is a Magnet-designated 364-bed, full-service, acute care community teaching hospital located in Eastern Baltimore County. In addition to Magnet Designation for excellence in Nursing, MFSMC has received the Delmarva Foundation Award for Quality Excellence and inclusion in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospital specialty ranking for three consecutive years. It is one of the busiest hospitals in emergency medicine, general medicine, obstetrics, and oncology. MFSMC has been awarded the high-level designation of a Teaching Hospital Cancer Center by the American College of Surgeons. MFSMC offers a full complement of obstetrical services in the women's pavilion, as well as a full continuum of pediatric services, including a high-tech level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). MFSMC is the fourth largest hospital in Baltimore, and its Emergency Department (ED) is the busiest in the state, with approximately 108,000 visits annually. MFSMC is accredited by the Joint Commission and certified as a Primary Stroke Center. The hospital recently opened a state-of-the art, seven-story Patient Care Tower which houses the NICU, an expanded ED, and additional parking facilities.
The MFSMC is seeking an exceptional nursing leader to assume the position of Administrative Director of Emergency and Critical Care Services (Administrative Director). The Administrative Director will have responsibility for the Emergency Department, and Critical Care which consists of two medical surgical ICUs totaling 28 beds (ICU South = 12 beds; ICU North = 16 beds). The same critical care nursing staff covers both units. Intensivists cover the ICU 24 hours a day. The Intermediate Care unit (IMC) is a 26-bed critical care step-down unit. Critical care PAs are on the units 24/7. The incumbent will report directly to Debbie Kisner, PhD, RN, CNOR, NEA-BC, the Vice President of Nursing Operations and Chief Nursing Officer.
The successful candidate will support interdisciplinary collaborative practice, be accountable for promoting and maintaining patient outcomes, support the standardization of evidence based nursing practice reducing variability, and provide direction for the continued achievement of stellar patient experience results.
