The CHIEF SPS NURSE is accountable for coordination and provision of all sterile processing of the Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS), has oversight responsibility for competencies and education which includes assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating education in the multiple clinics & procedure areas for clinical staff alignment with MVAHCS, in accordance with current and evolving VA Directives, JCAHO, and community standards.
The Nurse Chief for SPS reports directly to the MVAHCS Deputy Director of Patient Care Services, for daily business operations and consults with the Chief of Staff for patient care concerns. Provides leadership in the Sterile Processing Services, Reusable Medical Equipment programs and is responsible for issues that influence the VHA mission, health care and policy development. Coordinates with Quality Manager, Site Managers, Service Chiefs, and Nurse Managers at the main hospital and thirteen CBOC sites and is responsible for all sterilization and re-processing related to all semi-critical and critical items. Integral in the day-to-day strategic planning of equipment purchasing and standardization of sterile instruments and equipment at all patient care sites – including operating surgical suites, Hybrid OR and DiVinci Suites, ambulatory surgery clinics, endoscope, dental clinics, ophthalmic and primary care clinics.
This RN coordinates with the Chiefs of Logistics and Bio-medical Management and oversees greater than $15 million budget for surgical instrumentation and reusable medical equipment. This RN demonstrates leadership, as evidence by substantial and continuous responsibility for decision-making and accountability for the operation and clinical oversight of SPS.
Master’s Degree in nursing or related field, preferred, and 2 – 3 years experience; or Doctorate degree in nursing or related field, and 2 -3 years of experience.
At least five years of successful nursing practice in a medical setting that demonstrates high level of administrative and leadership skills.
