Kirby Bates Associates is honored to be working with Stony Brook University Hospital to identify an experienced contemporary nursing leader for the role of Associate Director, Behavioral Health and Psychiatric Nursing.
Stony Brook Medicine, Long Island’s premier academic medical center and the only tertiary hospital in Suffolk County, is dedicated to education, research and patient care. Integrating all health related initiatives, Stony Brook Medicine encompasses the Stony Brook University Hospital; the Clinical Practice Management Plan; and the Health Sciences schools of Nursing, Dental Medicine, Health Technology and Management, Social Welfare and Medicine.
Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) is the premier academic medical center serving the region’s most high-risk patients. The hospital is designated as a Regional (Level 1) Trauma Center and is ranked in the top decile nationally. There are nine intensive care units dedicated to anesthesia, burn, cardiovascular, coronary, pediatric, neonatal, and transplant patients. Stony Brook University Hospital consists of major clinical institutes and more than 50 community-based healthcare settings throughout Suffolk County.
SBUH is seeking an experienced Associate Director of Behavioral Health and Psychiatric Nursing, (ADBHP), to join the executive leadership team and assume responsibility for the psychiatric nursing program. The ADBHP will bring strong clinical and prior leadership experience behavioral health/psychiatry, as well as, experience in an academic medical center or a complex psychiatric setting. The ABHDP will lead the advancement of the practice of psychiatric nursing, support and develop nursing staff, and enhance the quality of patient care and customer experience. SBUH is the county referral center for all psychiatric emergencies. The comprehensive psychiatric program includes services for adults, children and adolescents. The program includes emergency services through the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program, Inpatient and Outpatient Services for Adults, Inpatient Services for Children, and Inpatient and Outpatient Services for Children and Adolescence. Stony Brook Medicine continues to develop affiliations with community hospitals in the region which will expand the available behavioral health/psychiatric services.
This is an excellent time for a progressive nursing leader in behavioral health/psychiatric to join the team at Stony Brook University Hospital.
A Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Nursing. Licensed or eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in the State of New York.
Extensive clinical and leadership experience in the care of behavioral health patients.
Prior leadership in inpatient psychiatric acute care setting. Significant experience in developing educational and quality improvement activities, and operational experience overseeing inpatient and outpatient units.
Extensive knowledge of nursing practice, healthcare trends, technological changes, and standards of care.
Demonstrated ability to engage others and drive organizational and cultural change.
Experience working effectively with collective bargaining units.
Ability to represent and coordinate a variety of professional disciplines, and to direct, monitor and evaluate the nursing care delivered.
Strong organizational and management skills.
Stony Brook is located on the North Shore of Long Island, approximately 55 miles east of the New York City borough of Manhattan. It is considered to be one of Long Island’s major tourist towns and centers of education.
