With approximately 50 tenured-track Faculty members, 25 limited-term undergraduate instructors, and a dedicated staff team of 35 people, the Faculty of Nursing offers a variety of programs including a Bachelor of Nursing, Master of Nursing (course-based), Master of Nursing (thesis-based), combined MN-Nurse Practitioner, post-master’s Nurse Practitioner certificate, and PhD. The Faculty has a total student enrollment of approximately 1000 students, which include 100 students who complete their BN credential through a collaborative program with Medicine Hat College. Each year over 300 students graduate from the program and join an alumni that is 8000 strong, which includes nurses who are leading health care developments at every level in Alberta, Canada, and around the world. Current facilities include a state-of-the-art Clinical Simulation and Learning Center that offers a full range of low-to-high fidelity simulation technologies, including virtual simulation. Simulation pedagogy is increasingly embedded throughout the undergraduate curriculum.
Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the Dean is responsible for leadership of the Faculty and effective use of its resources. A high-profile community leader, the Dean builds relationships with government, corporate leaders, funding partners, and donors; and promotes academic research activities, generating enthusiasm, support and collaboration for the Faculty throughout the region and internationally.
The ideal candidate is a visionary leader who is aware of current and future trends in Nursing and has demonstrated experience guiding a vision through to accomplishment in a Nursing or related field. The Dean will be a distinguished scholar who has maintained an active program of scholarly enquiry while preferably holding a senior-level administrative positon within an academic environment. With strong and effective communication skills, the next Dean will have the capacity to advocate, influence, and inspire diverse audiences. Preference will be shown to candidates with a PhD or equivalent and extensive practical and administrative experience including experience in fund development. The incumbent should be eligible for licensure as a registered nurse with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta.

Education and Experience
A Ph.D. or an equivalent qualification in nursing (preferred) or a relevant health science discipline is required.
Eligible for licensure as a registered nurse with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta.
Leadership experience, including guiding a vision through to accomplishment, ideally from a Nursing or related field of study; and
Proven ability to guide and work at the strategic level, engaging faculty members and staff in visioning and managing priorities.
A distinguished scholar who has maintained an active program of scholarly enquiry while holding a senior level administrative position within an academic environment;
Proven organizational, administrative, and financial and budgeting skills;
Superior people/conflict management and coaching/mentoring skills, and the ability to delegate effectively;
Proven fund development and stewardship experience, with a track record in securing funding from funding bodies, the community, and donors;
Proven capacity to contribute to a culture where excellence and innovation in research and teaching is valued and rewarded; and
Success in encouraging interdisciplinary and cross-faculty collaboration, and in embracing diverse research and teaching approaches.
A strong and effective communicator with the capacity to advocate, influence and inspire in a wide variety of settings;
Collaborative, respectful, strategic, decisive, politically astute, and able to operate effectively within a shared-governance structure; and
Proven capacity to build trust through openness and transparency, while demonstrating an uncompromising commitment to ethical values and the highest level of integrity.
