Palomar Medical Center in Escondido is seeking a Chief Nursing Officer at our state of the art 288 bed, Level II Trauma Center. This role is responsible for the overall coordination, integration and operation of nursing care, clinical practice and patient care standards of the hospital in collaboration with other members of the Executive Team and interdisciplinary partners, ensuring the delivery of integrated care through a physician-nurse dyad.

Utilizing process improvement methodologies, the CNO will continue the health systems work in optimizing efficiencies and improving patient outcomes.
Palomar Health is the first California member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network (MCCN) - a relationship that recognizes a mutual goal: fostering physician collaboration to improve the delivery of health care to our patients and communities. The CNO will also participate in the Professional Practice Council, a monthly system-wide shared governance council. This role will report directly to the system COO.
Participates in budget development, staff and resource allocation and strategic planning for the Medical Center, assuring the provision of quality care, ensuring a strategy and vision for these services that support the Palomar Health Strategic Plan.
Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating all aspects of care/services delivered; insuring quality programs, patient safety and a level of customer service that strives to exceed internal and external customer expectations; develops strong relationships with primary customers.

Develops and mentors a high performing management team for all areas of responsibility.
Ensures financial viability by managing both applicable revenue and expenses with attention to supply cost utilization and a high level of productivity in cost centers under direct control.
Plans, organizes and directs hospital Nursing, Nursing Education and other departments as assigned.
In coordination with Nursing Services Directors/Managers ensures appropriate nurse staffing and clinical care per regulatory and hospital policies.
Establishes and directs the nursing model; reviews and evaluates administrative and clinical nursing procedures within the hospital; directs and oversees the development and implementation of clinical and operational policies, procedures and standards, including quality assurance activities, for assigned areas; initiates changes as needed.
Confers with other hospital management and supervisory personnel to discuss management and patient care issues; confers with hospital administrative and medical staff regarding nursing program needs and administrative matters.
Participates in hospital-wide strategic planning activities to ensure the delivery of comprehensive and coordinated health services.
Collaborates with Regulatory team and monitors/evaluates new or revised regulatory agency and industry laws, regulations and standards applicable to assigned areas and ensures that assigned activities comply with all requirements.
Represents assigned areas to other hospital divisions, other County departments, and external agencies to coordinate activities, identify issues, resolve problems and share information.
Directs the preparation and maintenance of nursing records, reports and statistics in accordance with administrative and nursing policies as well as JCAHO, Title 9 and Title 22 regulations.
Directs the development and implementation of an in-service training program; confers with organizational development to ensure that the education and training needs for staff in assigned areas are met.
Conducts and/or participates in a variety of staff and committee meetings; serves on task forces and commissions as assigned.
Prepares or reviews special studies, reports and documents; reviews and ensures proper completion of reports, records and other documentation.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Business or Healthcare related field OR Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Nursing
5 years related clinical experience
3-5 years progressive management experience including: budgeting, evaluating staff equipment and supply needs, approval of expenditures, capital outlay requests
