Job Profile Summary The Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) of Jefferson Health provides leadership at the executive level for enterprise wide nursing services and contributes to the development and execution of the System’s Strategic Plan. The CNE creates the enterprise-wide nursing and advanced practice provider vision and leads elements of the strategic initiatives ensuring optimization of cost, quality, and efficiency; caregiver engagement across all entities and the execution of resource strategies. The CNE works under the direction of the Chief Physician Executive and Senior Executive Vice President and is a member of the Jefferson Health Enterprise Leadership Team.
Leadership responsibility for nursing services enterprise-wide ensuring high-quality care and an excellent patient experience through accountable leadership demonstrated by self and site-specific Chief Nursing Officers.
Collaborates with colleagues in the C-suite, hospital leadership, and the medical staff to identify, develop and execute on the delivery of clinical care of current and future programs.
In collaboration with the corporate leadership team, helps craft, instill and uphold a culture of excellence throughout Jefferson Health.
Ensures continued compliance with and promotion of nursing practice commensurate with Magnet® designation at all Jefferson Health entities.
Develops, communicates and executes a strategy supporting robust staffing plans and standards of patient care and services that meet patient care delivery needs of the hospital and ambulatory entities using advanced analytics and predictive modeling.
In collaboration with the Jefferson Health Corporate Executive Council and Jefferson Health entities, creates, executes and refines network and facility level strategies related to:
o Quality and Safety. o Patient Experience and Service Excellence. o Employee Engagement. o Recruitment and Retention. o Evidenced-based nursing practice, education, training, and competencies. o Evidenced-based advanced practice providers practice, education, training, and competencies. o Nursing and healthcare provider team Finance.
Serves as a member of the Jefferson Health Enterprise Leadership Council. Participates on the Jefferson Health Board of Directors when requested.
Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to nursing services and healthcare.
Serve as the CNE leader across the system, ensuring a collaborative and integrated approach to value-based care.
Function as the CNE to system policies and programs of care that address patient needs and ensures that all patient care areas establish and deliver the necessary patient services as required by the level of acuity and patient mix.
Lead satisfaction and value initiatives as designated to achieve top decile performance levels.
Develop system-wide educational and development strategy and curricular goals for the clinical nursing and healthcare workforce that optimizes clinical outcomes, employee engagement, patient satisfaction, and internal development and retention of workforce.
Participate with executive leadership in the development, revision and dissemination of the strategic plan.
Serve effectively on various Jefferson Boards and management committees to increase awareness of nursing activities, advance achievement of organizational strategic goals and strengthen inter-divisional cooperation and collaboration.
Ensure that patient care delivery model(s) and clinical and staffing standards for nursing are consistent with contemporary research in nursing practice and professional standards, compliant with accreditation standards, state and federal regulations and laws and are aligned with the Jefferson Health Mission, Vision and Values. Participates in planning, and evaluation of clinical programs and service.
Direct the development of strategies to promote recruitment, retention, and recognition of excellence in nursing.
Recommend and advocate the adoption and use of technology, including information technology, to advance continuity of care.
Quality & Safety
Lead Quality and Safety initiatives as designated to achieve top decile performance levels.
Lead the assurance and delivery of high quality, safe patient care that provides patients, families and referring physicians with a consistent, best-in-class customer experience.
Promote clinical integration across the Health System at both inpatient and outpatient sites, improvement and alignment to advance patient safety and outcomes while monitoring quality and maintaining continuous survey readiness.
Provide executive-level nursing leadership in the design and creation of programs to improve quality care.
Monitor key satisfaction metrics (i.e., employee, patient and family) and identifies opportunities for improvement and strategies to ensure key stakeholder support, confidence and satisfaction.
Communication & Relationship Management
In collaboration with key stakeholders and constituents, responsible for overseeing the development of a collaborative and coordinated inter-professional approach to patient care delivery inclusive of promoting and fostering proactive and positive relationships with MDs, clinical staff, executive and operational leaders within the system.
Encourages and facilitates cooperation within the organization to connect people to best thinking and practices. Involve others by listening to team decisions and actions; values and uses individual differences and talents.
Acts as a coach and mentor, while promoting professional growth and accountability within nursing leadership staff and colleagues in order to promote and build the pipeline of future nurses.
Actively participates in committees, councils and taskforces and regularly submits reports to appropriate committees, boards and agencies regarding outcomes.
Represent nursing in the community through active participation and engagement. Establishes and maintains relationships with business, civic and government entities to position the continuum of care within the system.
Actively supports the philanthropic goals of the organization, especially those relevant to philanthropy that supports nursing strategies and initiatives.
Oversees preparation of operational and capital budgets for all Nursing & Patient Care Services departments. Assures that the budgets are monitored throughout the course of the fiscal year, and that operating costs remain within the established fiscal parameters.
Directs and/or conducts determination-of-need and cost-benefit studies.
Sets priorities and advocates with administrative peers for allocation of resources.
Collaborates with the Health System leaders and CFO to assure that key operational components are appropriately reflected in financial statements.
Directs, coordinates and oversees preparation of department records, reports and analyses. Reviews and interprets records and reports to ascertain extent to which goals are being attained.
Integrates clinical, human resources and financial data in decision-making.
Bachelor’s and Master’s degree required, one of which must be in Nursing; DNP/PhD preferred.
Candidates enrolled in a DNP program with expected completion within 2 years of hire; or currently enrolled in a PhD program with expected completion within 4 years of hire.
Leadership experience in a Healthcare System required.
Magnet® experience highly preferred.
Seven – ten years progressive leadership experience in an academic medical center or highly complex healthcare organization/system.
Prior experience as a Chief Nursing Officer and/or Chief Nurse Executive.
Understanding of population health and emerging healthcare trends.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with the intra-professional team.
