The Director of Emergency Nursing Services provides nursing leadership which supports and operationalizes the Mercy Health System mission. This position will be responsible for Mercy Philadelphia Hospital, Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, and Nazareth Hospital. The Director provides nursing operational planning and analysis, ensures that quality patient care is delivered according to the nursing process, and assures efficiency of daily operations. This includes disciplined execution of activities to optimize emergency services and patient throughput. In addition, he/she is accountable for all patient care related activities occurring in emergency services including the quality of care and daily productivity. Management of clinical and administrative policies, practices, and processes are also accountabilities of the role. The Director works with the Chief Nursing Officer to attract and develop a team of highly capable, committed nursing leaders and staff who share a passion for quality patient care and customer satisfaction, creating a patient and customer focused nursing department. He/she develops collegial relationships and works with a team comprised of other nursing leaders and staff, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other members of the operating unit leadership team, and bargaining unit leadership. The Director is accountable for the safety of all patients’ treatment in the MHS Emergency Departments and holds staff and physicians accountable for the same.
Baccalaureate in Nursing and Master's degree in Nursing or related field required.
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of PA.
BCLS certification. Certification in area of practice preferred.
• Demonstrated communication, leadership and organizational skills.
• Ability to motivate employees to work cooperatively and conscientiously.
• Able to work projects through from idea to implementation and evaluation.
• Responsible for 24/7 operations of the Department.
• Ability to clearly communicate orally as required executing the responsibilities of the position.
• Proficient in WORD, Excel, PowerPoint, database management, and other software applications.
Minimum: Five (5) to Ten (10) years progressive clinical experience.
Minimum Five (5) years management experience required. Experience managing multiple sites preferred. Experience managing in a union environment preferred. Clinical proficiency and clinical certification required.
