The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. We are currently seeking a Specialist, AONE Governance, located in our Chicago office.
Since 1967, the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) has provided leadership, professional development, advocacy and research to advance nursing practice and patient care, promote nursing leadership excellence and shape public policy for health care nationwide. AONE is a subsidiary of the American Hospital Association.
The Specialist, AONE Governance is responsible for primary oversight of governance activities. Provides key support to the AONE chief executive officer (CEO) and chief operating officer (COO), this individual plays an integral role in the success of organization activities related to these critical AONE stakeholder groups. This position supports activities related to state affiliates. This individual must have the ability to be discrete and maintain confidential information related to governance activities.
Serves as the staff liaison to the AONE board of directors, providing support with governance onboarding, coordination of board speaking engagements, development of presentations, travel and expense management, and ongoing miscellaneous governance activities.
Maintains primary responsibility for the coordination and execution of successful quarterly board meetings, monthly board calls and quarterly board alumni calls. This includes oversight of scheduling, development of agendas based on input from AONE CEO and COO and members of the board executive committee, development/collection of supporting board materials, coordinating of meeting guests/external speakers, board minutes, summary/tracking of action items, and onsite meeting execution.
Provides support to the VP, Federal Relations and Policy in all aspects of the AONE nominations process and annual board elections, including development of timeline, compiling and dissemination of election materials, and providing information and support to board candidates.
Manages the AONE committee process, including coordination of committee charges, in collaboration with the AONE CEO and board president, issuing the call for volunteers, coordinating with the AONE staff liaisons to select committee members, and tracking committee work/deliverables and volunteers in AMS.
Provides support to the VP, Federal Relations and Policy in managing the AONE state affiliate relationship, including issuing annual dues invoices, maintaining the state affiliate directory, and planning and executing successful affiliate meetings and conference calls.
Provides support to the AONE CEO and COO regarding other related governance activities and special projects, prepares reports and supports day of dialogues with collaborative organizations.
3-5 years experience with a minimum 3 years of governance experience or related is required.
Experience supporting senior-level executives is required.
Experience organizing and executing board meetings is preferred.
Attention to detail and time management skills.
Knowledge Requirements:Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. Knowledge of governance best practices is preferred.
Technical Requirements:Intermediate computer and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) skills are required. Ability to learn and adapt to new technology and software essential.
