Chief Nursing Officer
The Chief Nurse Executive (“CNE”) maintains authority, responsibility, and accountability for the administration, coordination, and direction of nursing and clinical services at Mills-Peninsula Health Services. The organization consists of two campuses in San Mateo County, the Mills Health Center in San Mateo and the Peninsula Medical Center in Burlingame, with a combined total of 241 licensed beds. A broad spectrum of inpatient and outpatient, services is provided. The CNE has the primary responsibility at both facilities for directing nursing services through provision of safe, effective, quality nursing and clinical services across the continuum of care.
Nursing services reporting to this position include Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Interventional Radiology and Behavioral Health nursing in addition to general inpatient nursing services. This position maintains specific accountabilities for the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing standards of care, practice, and performance. These accountabilities include consistency across all areas of practice to ensure same standards of nursing care are delivered.
The CNE is a member of the Senior Management Team, sits at the Mills-Peninsula Health Services Board of Directors, and participates in the Medical Executive Committee. The CNE reports directly to the CEO, MPHS and also has a secondary reporting relationship directly to the Sutter Health Chief Nurse Officer.
As Nurse Executive for Mills-Peninsula Health Services the CNE ensures the quality of nursing standards of patient care and practice by incorporating current nursing research findings, nationally recognized professional standards and other literature into the policies and procedures governing the provision of nursing care, treatment, and services. This position therefore establishes nursing policies and procedures, nursing standards, and nurse staffing plans that are defined, documented and accessible to the nursing staff. She/he exercises final authority over those who provide nursing care, treatment, and services.
BS from an Accredited School of Professional Nursing required
Master’s degree in Nursing Administration, Nurse Science or Business Administration required
Current unrestricted California Nursing License required
At least three years’ experience as a senior nurse executive in an acute care facility or five years’ experience at a director level in a large acute care facility
Community and industry standards of care and patient safety
Demonstrated understanding of outcome benchmarking
Performance improvement strategies including lean
Compliance and risk prevention
Patient experience improvement
In depth understanding of financial management and resource deployment in healthcare settings, including capital planning, business planning
Mastery of federal and state regulations/laws relating to healthcare institutions, services, physician relationships, wage and hour laws/regulation
Proficiency in clinical outcomes data interpretation
Preparation of executive reports and presentations
