Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH), a member of BJC HealthCare, is a nationally renowned, Magnet designated, academic medical center. BJH, with 1,346 licensed beds, is the affiliated teaching hospital of Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM). BJH was the first adult hospital in MO to be designated as a Magnet Hospital and earned its fourth Magnet designation in 2018. For 26 consecutive years, since the inception of the process, BJH has placed on U.S. News & World Report‘s honor roll of America’s Best Hospitals. The Siteman Cancer Center, at BJH and the WUSM, is a nationally designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Barnes-Jewish and Washington University Heart & Vascular Center has pioneered many procedures in heart transplantation and vascular surgery. BJH serves as the area’s regional referral center. BJH extends care into the community through its integrated levels of care and provides more than 165 community education events annually. BJH recently went live with EPIC for their EMR.
The Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) is a new position for BJH. The ACNO will report to Angelleen Peters-Lewis, PhD, RN, Vice President, Patient Care Services, and Chief Nurse Executive, who joined BJH in October of 2017. The ACNO will work collaboratively with Directors to develop and implement nursing policies, standards and models of care delivery. In the current structure, Executive Directors for the service lines report to Nursing for practice and have a matrix responsibility to the CMO for program growth. Direct reports to the ACNO role include a combination of Directors and Executive Directors with responsibility for MedSurg, Critical Care, Emergency Department, and Behavioral Health, with dotted line to the Cancer Center, Heart and Vascular, Ambulatory, Perioperative Services, Women’s & Children’s, Transplant, and Imaging Services. BJH experiences high patient occupancy and the ED has more than 95,000 ED visits annually. The ACNO will work with hospital leaders and WUSM partners to ensure an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery and to enhance capacity management with the goal of seamless patient progression across every environment of care. The ACNO will work with colleagues across the System to facilitate transitions of care and to standardize approaches where appropriate. The incumbent will partner with HR to establish a culture of employee engagement and retention.
Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, one of which must be in Nursing. Doctorate preferred. Eligible for RN license in MO.
Must have broad scope leadership experience or service line leadership experience in an academic medical center.
Ten (10) years of progressive management/leadership experience.
Experience with Magnet designation process.
Flexible leader with knowledge of emerging models of care delivery.
Experience with diverse/underserved populations and building an inclusive environment for patients, families and employees.
Ability to design and implement an overarching patient care delivery model that guides care across the continuum.
Demonstrated ability to support leaders to achieve national metrics for hospital indicators.
