The Senior Vice President, Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) role for Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) position provides a tremendous opportunity for a well-established nursing leader looking to apply executive leadership and strategy skills at an innovative, growing and nationally regarded health care system.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Hackensack Meridian Health, the CNE of HMH determines and establishes institutional nursing policies, oversees the direction of nursing services and advises the COO on matters of nursing care services for this $5.5 billion health system. She/he will plan, organize, direct and evaluate nursing care throughout the organization and provide strategic and operational leadership at the executive level. The CNE will be accountable for advancing nursing practice across the organization in an effort to ensure the delivery of high quality care and service. As the senior nursing executive, the CNE serves as an advocate and spokesperson for nursing, patient care and safety, both internally at HMH as well as externally within the community.
Embraces the nursing staff and promotes greater alignment and consistency of processes across HMH. Pays particular attention to developing newer hires and proactively addresses efforts around succession planning.
Evaluates and re-aligns support systems including (but not limited to) LEAN initiatives, Patient Experience, HR and other functional areas to ensure appropriate integration of nursing across key patient care areas.
Effectively leads teams through the changing environment externally and across all HMH facilities.
Builds stronger partnership between nursing leaders and physicians partners at all levels in order to promote the highest quality clinical care at the bedside.
Demonstrates awareness of effective operational paradigms such as dyad partnerships or other collaborative models. Promotes better standardization across key clinical processes and advances a culture of innovation.
Partners with HMH leadership on piloting new staffing models geared towards improving retention.
Candidates for the position of Senior Vice President, Chief Nurse Executive will be selected from a pool reflecting gender/racial diversity and will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
Ten years’ progressive leadership experience within nursing leadership and/or healthcare administration.
A proven leader of people who can recruit, develop, mentor and retain a top-notch team capable of supporting future growth in a fiscally responsible manner.
Demonstrated nursing leadership in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion with the populations served and working within the system.
Expertise in evolving professional practice models, value based care, and quality improvement processes.
Experience building and sustaining strong physician relationships.
A systems thinker and one who is willing to participate collaboratively to influence the process of care within their own organization and across the system based on best practice.
Proven track record of improving nursing operations with positive outcomes in quality, cost, productivity, patient throughput and patient, employee and physician satisfaction.
Participation and/or leadership of the Magnet journey is strongly preferred.
Union experience is strongly preferred.
Bachelor’s (BA/BS) and master’s (MA/MS/MBA/MPA) degrees in related fields.
Graduate of a NLN/AACN accredited program in nursing (bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in nursing).
