The Vice President Clinical Services/Chief Nursing Officer at Community Hospital in McCook, NE serves as a member of the Community Hospital Administrative Council under the direction of the Hospital CEO.
The VP Clinical Services/CNO is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of the nursing and the day-to-day operation of the clinical services of Community Hospital by providing direction and structure to hospital nursing and clinical services leaders.
The VP Clinical Services/CNO has the responsibility, authority, and accountability for the supervision of the departments of nursing throughout the facility along with the supervision of Surgery, Home Health & Hospice, Respiratory Care, Social Services, Laboratory, Pharmacy, and Performance Improvement.
The VP/Clinical Services is responsible for assessing clinical services operations, making recommendations for improvement to ongoing programs and services in areas, and for assessing, measuring and improving the quality of care/services provided in a cost-effective manner while promoting a team approach to the delivery of patient care and services. The VP/Clinical Services also leads all initiatives related to the Quality pillar- being the regional leader in providing person-centered care that is safe, efficient, and exemplifies best practices.
Compliance: Assures nursing and clinical services compliance with federal, state and local government laws and regulations, accrediting agency standards and hospital policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Training: Provides training for staff and leaders as needed or requested. Assists in the orientation and onboarding of new leaders.
Operations Management: Collects and analyzes data from internal and external sources regarding current way of doing business and clinical processes. Conducts needs analysis, identifies and prioritizes needs, applies good problem solving skills. Identifies alternate processes and potential solutions and acts to implement changes to improve operations.
Safety and Quality of Care: Leads and maintains a culture of safety and quality including a safe functional environment. Provides opportunities for all who work in the hospital to identify safety and/or quality issues, bring issues to management’s attention, and participate in safety and quality initiatives and planning.
Financial Management: Participates in the preparation and management of sound operating, project and capital budgets. Provides stewardship of all financial and physical resources. Understands the principles of productivity management
Human Resources: Advises hospital leaders regarding the availability of adequate numbers of competent staff that are properly credentialed, educated, trained, motivated and engaged. Advises on performance management systems including policies/practices for providing timely feedback, recognizing excellence and dealing with problem behavior and poor performance.
High performance culture: Conveys values and acceptable behavior to all stakeholders through own actions. Assist with the creation of an organizational climate that encourages teamwork, builds employee engagement, collaborates, accepts accountability, and produces quality results. Inspires individual and organizational excellence.

External Communication and Relationship: Works with hospital and community leaders as appropriate to assess community healthcare needs, build a positive hospital image and market hospital services. Demonstrates appropriate political savvy, tack and diplomacy.

Fosters open and effective communication between patients, nursing and medical staff to resolve problems. Promotes harmonious relationships among nursing, medical staff, patients and the public.

Bachelor’s degree in nursing with either a Master’s degree in Nursing Administration or Healthcare Administration required.
Five to ten years clinical experience with management experience.
A minimum of three years of progressive senior nursing leadership experience or similar position in an acute care environment is required.
Previous CNO experience preferred.
Current licensure as a registered nurse by the state of Nebraska DHHS Regulation & Licensure.
Experience in a Critical Access Hospital environment is preferred.
