CHRISTUS Health has retained Steve Weiner Search Group to conduct a nationwide search to recruit an outstanding Chief Nursing Officer for CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick and Lake Area Hospitals.
CHRISTUS Health is a Catholic, not-for-profit system made up of more than 600 centers, including long-term care facilities, community hospitals, walk-in clinics, and health ministries. It is one of the top 10 largest Catholic health systems in the nation.
CHRISTUS Health Southwest Louisiana, with gross patient revenue of $1.4 billion, is a wholly owned subsidiary of CHRISTUS Health. The organization serves a regional population of 240,000 in five parishes and is comprised of a 277-bed tertiary hospital, an 88-bed women and children’s hospital, a physician practice management division, an integrated multi-specialty group, home health agency, and hospice. Recently, CHRISTUS Health in Lake Charles, Louisiana finalized an agreement with Ochsner Health System to create a joint venture in the region. This will serve to build on the respective strengths of both organizations, while improving access to care for Lake Charles and the surrounding communities.
CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital is a 277-bed tertiary care medical center. The hospital is known for its strong service lines in cardiology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and general medicine. St. Patrick Hospital is recognized as a Chest Pain Center by the American College of Cardiology and as a Primary Stroke Center. CHRISTUS Ochsner Lake Area Hospital is an 88-bed women and children’s hospital and an accredited Bariatric Surgery Center. Noteworthy is the fact that Lake Area Hospital earned first place in Press Ganey scores for nurse and physician communication compared to all of CHRISTUS’s other hospitals throughout the country. St. Patrick and Lake Area Hospitals are both Joint Commission accredited.

The city of Lake Charles is conveniently located between Houston and New Orleans. The city takes pride in its small town values and fast growing, booming economy. It is considered a regionally significant center of petrochemical refining, gaming, tourism, and education. Because of the lakes and waterways throughout the city, metropolitan Lake Charles is often referred to as the Lake Area. There has been a large capital investment in the oil and gas industries with several major projects currently under construction. Lake Charles is the third fastest growing region of the country. The area is known for its excellent school systems and higher education, as well as its abundance of lakes, outdoor activities, recreational facilities, arts, culture, and theatre. Lake Charles is a great place to live and raise a family.
The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for providing leadership for patient care delivery, nursing, and nurse practice at CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick and Lake Area Hospitals in Lake Charles, Louisiana. In alignment with regional leadership and system nursing leadership, the CNO provides the vision and sets direction for quality evidence-based patient-centered care. The CNO builds collaborative nurse-physician relationships to provide safe, effective, and efficient patient care while ensuring nurses feel empowered to serve as patient representatives/advocates. The position serves as a member of the senior leadership team in Lake Charles and is responsible for 555 FTEs. The CNO reports directly to, consults with, and advises the Chief Executive Officer of CHRISTUS Ochsner Southwestern Louisiana on issues relating to the operation of the ministry and nursing’s major role in that endeavor.
The successful nursing leader serves as a key partner to optimize operations/efficiencies and standardize systems between both hospitals. An ongoing priority is employee engagement and recruitment/retention of nursing staff. This involves assuming an active role and developing relationships with McNeese State University and SOWELA Technical Community College in Lake Charles. The CNO promotes professional development, serves as a resource, and mentors/teaches nurse managers while holding them accountable.
CHRISTUS Health seeks a seasoned and outstanding individual to serve as CNO with a work history reflecting strong nursing leadership skills and a track record of success. Multi-site leadership experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will recognize the importance of employee engagement, have a collaborative management style, be an effective communicator, build trust, and be visible throughout the organization. The CNO should have an operational and strategic skill set, a keen understanding of information technology, and a vision for the future. This individual must be confident, energetic, team-oriented, and work effectively in a matrix organization. This talented executive will possess the highest integrity and promote the values and culture of the ministry.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing and MSN, MBA, or other health-related education.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience as a Director of Nursing/Chief Nursing Officer. Multi-site leadership experience preferred.
