About Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare
Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare (MLH) began as the dream of a Mississippi planter, John Sherard in 1899. Methodist Hospital of Memphis was chartered in 1918 and on November 2, 1921 a dedication ceremony and public reception was held at the Lamar Avenue location allowing the hospital John Sherard had worked more than 20 years to build to finally became a reality. The hospital has stood on the site of Methodist University Hospital (formerly Methodist Central Hospital) since 1924.
Methodist Healthcare was organized and chartered in 1982 as Methodist Health Systems, the parent company of multiple hospitals and other entities. The name was changed to Methodist Healthcare in 1998 and now includes four adult hospitals in the Memphis area, as well as Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, Fayette Hospital in Somerville, and affiliated services throughout the markets we serve.
MLH provides care outside the hospital setting through the Affiliated Services Division. Methodist Alliance Health Services provides care for patients in Memphis, and North Mississippi with Home Care, Home Medical Equipment, Private Duty, Infusion Therapy, Lifeline, and Hospice services. Other service lines under the ...Affiliated Services Division are Ambulatory Services, Ambulatory Surgery, Minor Medical Centers, and Rehabilitative Services.
