Ballad Health is recruiting an experienced Chief Nursing Officer to assume responsibilities over four campus locations in picturesque Wise and Dickenson Counties in beautiful Southwest Virginia. The person in this position will be essential to Ballad Health in Wise County as we embark on a county wide plan to design and improve services and programs. We will look to this position to provide the necessary leadership to achieve operational efficiencies while also maintaining or improving patient safety and quality of care. This position will serve as the CNO of Lonesome Pine Hospital, Mountain View Community Hospital, Norton Community Hospital and Dickenson Community Hospital.

SCOPE OF POSITION The Assistant Administrator/Chief Nursing Officer(CNO) plans, organizes, directs, and monitors the activities of the Nursing Division and assigned departments. The Assistant Administrator/CNO is responsible for providing Executive Leadership to the nurses of the facility by facilitating the delivery of one standard of nursing care. The Assistant Administrator/CNO is responsible for strategic planning to ensure nursing care for the patients of the facility and support of the system’s Mission and Vision, equipment evaluation, and selection. The Assistant Administrator/CNO is responsible for assuring that system’s nursing policies are developed consistently and observed. Also responsible for the development of appropriate departmental policies and procedures. Assist to establish Standards of Nursing Care for Nursing Services in the organization. The Assistant Administrator/CNO ensures the continuous and timely availability of nursing services to all patients. These services include: - Assessing the patient's nursing care needs - Planning and providing nursing care interventions - Preventing complications and promoting improvement to patient's comfort and wellness - Alerting other care professionals to the patient's condition, as appropriate
The Assistant Administrator/CNO is accountable for coordinating nursing and other assigned departments compliance with all pertinent JCAHO Standards and with local, state, and federal regulations.
As an integral part of the management team, the Assistant Administrator/CNO is required to participate in process improvement programs and to cooperate with interdepartmental projects to improve quality of service and reduce cost. The Assistant Administrator/CNO is accountable for practicing fiscal responsibility by developing realistic annual Operating and Capital Budgets, conserving resources, and monitoring expenditures to ensure they remain within budgeted parameters. This position is responsible for flexing staffing to comply with productivity standards. The Assistant Administrator/CNO will ensure that departmental facilities and equipment are regularly inspected and maintained in optimum operating condition.
This position is responsible for assisting with retention/recruitment plans of the company. This position is responsible for maintaining the qualified staff needed to provide quality services and for monitoring the activities of subordinate managers and supervisors; to ensure that ongoing educational opportunities, including attendance company programs, are provided; and that employees are treated with dignity, fairness, and consistency, within the guidelines set forth in the Alliance's Personnel Policies and Procedures.
The Assistant Administrator/CNO is accountable for maintaining harmonious interactions between departments and personnel and their customers including patients, family members, visitors, physicians, clergy, other employees and the general public. The incumbent must ensure that departmental employees know and understand the company’s Mission, Vision, and uphold its Values. The Assistant Administrator/CNO is expected to set an example for all employees of commitment and loyalty to the facility and the System by openly supporting and participating in projects and events. The Assistant Administrator/CNO is accountable for maintaining technical expertise and development of leadership skills through ongoing education.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE The Assistant Administrator/CNO will be a Registered Nurse and will possess a Bachelor's Degree although a Master's Degree in Nursing or related management discipline is preferred. Consideration will be given to candidates currently enrolled in college to achieve these degrees. The position requires a minimum of five years progressive responsible experience in health care, including three years in a supervisory role. The incumbent will be required to update technical expertise and to develop management/leadership skills through continuing education throughout tenure in this position.
