Quick Leonard Kieffer has been retained by Hackensack Meridian Health in Hackensack, New Jersey to conduct the search for a vice president and chief nursing officer of the system’s 781-bed flagship facility, Hackensack University Medical Center.
Hackensack Meridian Health is the largest, most comprehensive and truly integrated healthcare network in New Jersey, reaching two-thirds of the state through its 16 hospitals, which encompasses more hospitals ranked in New Jersey’s top ten than any other healthcare network, and is rated in the top 10% nationally in nine specialties. Hackensack University Medical Center is served by approximately 3,300 doctors and 2,000 direct care nurses, logging 69,460 admissions, 11,850 inpatient surgeries, and 19,700 outpatient surgeries each year. Notably, Hackensack University Medical Center became the second institution in the United States (and the first outside of a pilot program) to receive the Magnet honor from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for nursing excellence in 1995.
Reporting directly to the network chief nurse executive of Hackensack Meridian Health and to the executive vice president/chief clinical and patient care officer of Hackensack University Medical Center, the vice president/chief nursing officer is accountable for defining, planning, implementing, and evaluating the scope of practice, professional standards, and care delivery systems as they directly relate to nursing patient satisfaction, nursing quality outcomes, and patient safety. An integral member of the senior executive team, the VP/CNO will partner with other Hackensack University Medical Center senior executives to develop the strategic plan of the medical center, and, in collaboration with members of the nursing executive team, will define and implement a strategic plan for care delivery systems across the continuum.
The appropriate candidate for this position will possess a Registered Nurse license in the state of New Jersey (or be eligible for New Jersey licensure), as well as a master’s degree in a health-related field. Additionally, this individual should possess a proven track record of at least 10 years of highly successful progressive leadership in senior-level nursing roles and/or other relevant senior-level experience with major hospitals or hospital systems; CNO experience is strongly preferred. More specifically, the ideal candidate for the VP/CNO position will have a long track record of being a visible, versatile leader with a strong business sense, who also brings an innovative approach to health care strategy and advancing the practice of nursing.
