The Shriners Hospitals for Children headquartered in Tampa, FL is seeking a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). This national position has overall accountability by providing leadership and guidance for system-wide nursing and is a strong partner in clinical care activities. This includes continuous improvement of nursing and clinical services to meet the needs and expectations of those served by the Shriners Hospitals for Children (SHC).
The CNO position is for the entire national system of SHC facilities and is a member of the executive leadership team at the system-wide level. The CNO builds and supports effective relationships with internal and external Board Members, stakeholders to ensure optimal operative effectiveness and strategic positioning.

Doctorate in Nursing, preferred.
Must hold a master's degree in nursing or other healthcare related field at a minimum. If the master's is not in nursing, then either the baccalaureate or a doctoral degree must be in nursing.
Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in at least one state in which SHC has a facility.
DESIRED CAPABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE
Ten (10) or more years of experience in progressive nursing management/leadership roles, preferably in pediatrics. Multi-facility/System experience preferred and a proven record of accomplishment in transforming care delivery across a highly complex and matrixed System.
Demonstrate current knowledge and experience regarding the complexities of the health care industry, model transitions and integration to ensure quality and reduce variability.
Ensures professional practice standards of nursing and the clinical care team are recognizable and demonstrated in all SHC practice settings.
Experience identifying and leading initiatives involving a variety of stakeholders within nursing, patient care services and other disciplines, that are innovative, timely and evidence based which enhance the patient experience and demonstrate exceptional quality care.
Knowledge and experience in finance, operations and project management, nursing technology, strategic planning, state and national regulations and state scope of practice acts. Lean/Six Sigma experience, a plus.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills with the ability to successfully lead interprofessional teams to achieve objectives.
Strong organizational and change management skills the ability to influence and foster cultural change across the health care continuum.
Highly developed administrative, problem-solving, analytical skills.
Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to
Develops and works in partnership with others to support strategies for achievement of excellent patient care outcomes within Nursing, Care and Utilization Management, Utilization Review, Pharmacy, Laboratories, Physical and Rehabilitation Therapy, Continuous Documentation Improvement (CDI), Nursing Informatics, and International Patient Referral Management.
Provides oversight and resource management of system-wide nursing and clinical practice, ensuring standards and competencies for safety and quality of that practice are in accordance with regulatory requirements and evidence based professional practice. Ensures all care provided reflects the core values and mission of Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Demonstrates expertise in professional nursing practice, clinical operations, care management, quality and safety, the patient experience, performance improvement, and workforce planning.
Defines and implements coordinated nursing and clinical quality and safety of care metrics utilizing appropriate benchmark data sources, as well as a continuous performance improvement process at both the facility and system levels.
Builds system-wide capacity of nursing and patient care services to evaluate, adopt and translate valid research and evidence based practice into SHC care delivery models. Promotes nurse-led research as a cornerstone of nursing excellence, clinical outcomes, and standards of care.
Establishes the vision for the future of SHC nursing, as well as, leads the Nursing Executive Council in identifying and prioritizing processes and programs to accomplish strategic objectives. These objectives reflect alignment with national professional organizations and the SHC 2035 Vision.
Creates a culture of system-wide interprofessional teamwork, innovation and accountability at all levels within nursing and patient care services. Recognizes and celebrates these efforts.
Provides executive leadership of nursing and clinical informatics technology acquisition and implementation strategies. Identifies and ensures resources are in alignment for optimal clinical integration, adoption and continuous optimization. Ensures workflows align with end-user practice resulting in efficient and effective patient centered care.
Leads organizational learning initiatives through work with national and facility clinical educators to support and direct system wide education to achieve best in class performance to meet the needs of our patients and care team.
Actively supports the SHC international care strategy of treating more children closer to their homes through innovation, educational, technology and transformational clinical care.
Develops and utilizes system data, industry best practices and patient stories to provide input and recommendations at executive and system governing body level discussions. At all times placing the patient, first.
