Five-time Magnet-designated Baystate Medical Center (BMC) in Springfield, MA, features the busiest single-site ED in Massachusetts and stands as the region’s only Level?I trauma center and specialized pediatric emergency unit, treating over 120,000 high-acuity adult and pediatric patients annually. The ED spans ~72,000?sq?ft with 94 private rooms, separate pediatric and behavioral-health areas, 10 ambulance bays, and a rooftop helipad. The pediatric unit includes 17 beds with 90 visits per day.
Reporting to the Baystate Medical Center Chief Nursing Officer, the System Director, Emergency Services will lead the nursing team in the Department of Emergency Services at Baystate Medical Center, as well as provide enterprise-wide coordination, subject-matter leadership, and standard-setting for ED nursing practice across four hospitals: Baystate Medical Center, Baystate Noble, Baystate Franklin, and Baystate Wing. The ED Nursing Director will partner closely with regional CNOs, site ED nurse managers, and ED physician leadership to ensure consistency, reliability, and excellence across all Baystate Emergency Departments.
This Director will shape system-wide ED strategy by serving as the enterprise expert on operations, care models, and clinical standards. This role drives the development and execution of nursing and organizational strategic priorities, translating them into measurable outcomes. They will design and implement policies and programs aligned with the system’s mission and 2030 strategic plan, leading initiatives to improve quality, safety, patient experience, nurse engagement, and LWBS performance.
Opportunity Highlights:
- Serve as the Baystate Health enterprise nursing expert on emergency department operations, clinical standards, workflows, and care models.
- Directly oversee both adult and pediatric emergency departments at Baystate Medical Center, one of the nation’s busiest Level 1 trauma centers, within a five-time Magnet-designated hospital, known for its strong educational pathways for nurses.
- Partner with a dynamic System Chair of Emergency Medicine—recently spotlighted in Becker’s—in a progressive, results-oriented, interdisciplinary team environment.
Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in nursing and eligibility for a Massachusetts RN license.
- Five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in an emergency setting.
